Meet Helen, Founder of Wainwright’s Canine Academy

I’m Helen, a fully qualified dog trainer and very proud dog mum to Arnold, my golden retriever.

What started as a dog-walking job with him by my side has grown into a career I truly love. Today, I help people understand their dogs, build trust, and enjoy calmer, happier lives together.

Modern, science-led training

I’m accredited by the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT) and the Dog Training College (DTC), I hold an OCN Level 3 in Principles of Dog Training and Behaviour, and a Level 4 in canine behaviour modification with The DoGenius. Learning is a huge part of who I am. My brain never quite switches off when it comes to dogs, and I believe if we work with animals, we have a huge responsibility to stay up to date with current findings.

Because the dog training world isn’t regulated, anyone can call themselves a trainer. Sadly, this means some people still use outdated or forceful methods that can do real harm. This is something that has never felt right to me. I chose to get properly qualified because dogs deserve training that is kind, science-led and focused on helping them feel safe and understood. I use my head, not my hands.

What dogs mean to me

Dogs continue to fascinate me every single day. We are incredibly lucky to share our homes and lives with such amazing animals. Yes, caring for a dog is a big responsibility, but it is also a real honour. It takes patience and consistency to help a dog feel confident in the human world, and positive training is the most effective and compassionate way to guide them.

Through Wainwright’s Canine Academy, my goal is simple: to help you understand your dog, support their needs and enjoy a calmer, easier life together through modern, kind and practical training.

If you want guidance that feels supportive, realistic and free from judgement, you are in the right place.

"We are totally responsible for the well-being of dogs. We are their lifeline and along with this power comes incredible responsibility, for this power is not a license to do whatever we like to suit ourselves. We must respect and love dogs for who they are, not for what we want them to be"
